One summer night, a boy and his beautiful cousin plunge naked into the moonlit waters of a rural quarry. Twenty years later, the boy, now grown, flees the wreckage of his life and returns to Arden, Wisconsin, in search of everything he has lost.
But for Miles Teagarden, the landscape he knew so well has turned eerie and threatening. And the love he shared has become very, very deadly....
If You Could See Me Now (Audible Audio Edition) Peter Straub Mark Deakins Random House Audio Books
Peter Straub usually writes books I can't put down: Shadowland, In the Night Room, Lost Boy Lost Girl and A Dark Matter were gripping. But this one? I think he got inspiration from his to-do list of errands. The prologue started out interesting, then little happened in the first 80% of the book except for one shocking revelation about halfway through. You can easily skip most of this book and not miss anything. The real action starts in the last 20% of the book, and even that was mostly predictable. And one of the main characters was absent from all that. Not written out; just not mentioned.
I had to struggle to finish this book, and didn't get much reward for it.

If You Could See Me Now (Audible Audio Edition) Peter Straub Mark Deakins Random House Audio Books Reviews
Love everything Peter Straub writes.
A little slow to start but man when it gets started! Just could not put it down, and the ending is a really shocker! Typical Peter Straub, edge of your seat reading.
I actually liked it better than the book it follows. Very creepy 'haunting' story, very interesting resolution. I didn't quite see the point of the flashback/romance.
There's a really good book hidden in here.
If you skip over parts where the author goes off on boring tangents, you find an interesting book.
Here's an interesting story of an encounter 20 years earlier which changed many lives after.
I really like the way Straub weaves his story and keeps the suspense going up to the end, I do believe the ending could have been a little more in-depth, I won't throw any spoilers in here, read the book and you'll understand what I mean! LoL
Great story, intense characters....but a very lame ending. I was highly disappointed by the way it turned out, and wonder if the author just got tired?
This book was slow moving and the characters were unlikable so I did not connect with the story well. I had to force myself to finish because I did t care what happened...not a book I would recommend but it was not a bad book..just not for me.
